* And all the wonders...should draw me from my grief, and yet I can not heal my heart; And so the mind suffers; the mind closes as if it were a flower without sun.
* When we are weary, we speak lovingly of dreams, as if they embodied our true desires - what we would have when that which we do have so sorely disappoints us.
by Denton Welch
When you long with all your heart for someone to love you, a madness grows there that shakes all sense form the trees, and the water and the earth. And nothing lives for you except the long, deep, bitter want. And this is what everyone feels from birth to death.
from Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
Little did I know what waited at the end of the corridor; how seldom we recognize the sound when the bolt of our fate slides home.
from Fiesta, The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway
* I can't stand it to think my life is going so fast, and I'm not really living it.
* You can't get away from yourself by moving from one place to another.
* ...certain injuries or imperfections are a subject of merriment while remaining quite serious for the person possesing them.
* You gave up something and got something else. Or you worked for something. You paid some way for everything that was any good. Either you paid by learning about them, or by experience, or by taking chances, or by money. Enjoying living was learning to get your money's worth. The world was a good place to buy in.
Perhaps that wasn't true, though. Perhaps as you went along, you did learn something, I did not care what it was all about. All I wanted to know was how to live in it. Maybe if you found out how to live in it you learned from that what it was all about.

"no, this is not a love story.
but it is a story about love.
about those who give in to it,
and the price they pay.
and those who run away from it
because they are afraid...
or because they do not believe
that they are worthy of it."
